Culture & History 2

PROJECT ONE

Architecture Heritage Building Analysis

In this project, we (in a group of 4), have selected The New Victoria Institution as our building to study and to write a report about it.

Project Objectives :
From our observations on site, we were to identify different architectural elements that have been adapted to the site to best serve the practical and functional needs of te local community as compared to similar building type found in another region. And how has local technology, materials, climatic conditions, history, culture and beliefs influenced the design of the building.

The Report

THE ANALYSIS BOARD

Based on the report, we were to identify architectural components (exterior & interior) that have been adapted in response to local contextual conditions through a set of annotated sketches.

Briefly explaining the building, location, architecture style, architect, function, construction and materials was required through sketches for our board.

We were given the choice to analyze Response, User & Context, Concept and Change.

Through this project, I've learned how to interpret architectural language in relation of the development of Western architecture between Industrial Revolution and post WW II. I was also able to differentiate the way which many varied factors contributed to the developement of form.
